How to Save Battery Using Standby Apps Feature on Android Smartphones?

Google adds a host of new features and functionality with each of its versions of the mobile operating system, Android. Over a host of several other easily noticeable features, there’s a feature called ‘Standby apps’ that can help you boost your smartphone’s battery as well as performance. With this feature, you can place any app installed on your smartphone in different categories. Each category has its own set of rules on how the apps belonging to each group will use available system resources in terms of CPU, battery, etc.

What are the Categories of Standby Apps?

Standby apps have 4 categories:

Active: Apps placed in this category don’t have any restrictions and they can keep functioning as per their default settings and characteristics.

Working Set: Putting apps in this category put medium level restrictions, but the apps can keep on functioning as usual with the slightly restricted resource.

Frequent: It puts a relatively stronger restriction of the app on the ability to run.

Rare: Apps placed in this category are imposed with a strict set of rules on their ability to run, receive FCM messages and apps also can’t connect to the internet.

By putting apps in different categories as per the usages pattern reduces the extra background process load from the smartphone and ends up consuming relatively less power and CPU resource.
