Apple CEO Tim Cook Hints at Autonomous Tech and Apple Car

Apple CEO Tim Cook has hinted in an interview about the possibility of an Apple car, and an autonomous vehicle technology that will likely be a key feature.

This happened following the rumors that Apple was in talks to develop its own car.

In an interview, Cook spoke about self-driving startup, and hinted at Apple’s future plans.

When asked if Apple was working on a car or a technology within a car, Apple CEO did not comment. The Apple CEO Cook did not confirm whether the company would finally release its own autonomous vehicle. Cook was careful not to reveal too much, declining to answer anything outright if Apple is planning to produce a car itself or the tech within the car.

It is still unclear what the Apple car will look like, but as a passenger vehicle, rather than a robotaxi or delivery vehicle, it will be going against Tesla.

He also said, “The autonomy itself is a core technology. The car in many ways is a robot. An autonomous car is a robot. There are lots of things one can do with autonomy. And we will witness what Apple does.”

Cook added “We at Apple love to integrate hardware, software, and services. We are always searching intersection points because we think that is where likely some magic will occur. And we have always loved to own the primary technology that is around that.”

Cooker further said, “In terms of the work that we’re doing there, obviously, I am going to be coy.”

Cook even said “Apple has regularly played with different ideas that do not always end up in the market. We investigate so many things internally. Many of them never even see the light of day. I am not saying that one will not.”

The ‘Apple car’ chatter is pointing to a 2024 launch date

Many people in the micro-mobility industry believe that the e-scooters are actually iPhones on wheels, but it is more likely that actually, the Apple car will end up becoming the iPhone on wheels. Apple is known in the market for having ownership of all of its hardware and software, so maybe Apple engineers are working closely with a manufacturer to produce an Apple car, with Apple itself probably becoming a manufacturer one day.

Media reports even said that Apple was likely finalizing a deal with Hyundai-Kia to manufacture an Apple autonomous electric vehicle. However, the automakers later said that have not been in talks with Apple. However, the two firms never reached any deal and talks likely fell apart in February, according to multiple reports.

Sources said last year that Apple was making progress in its self-driving car technology and was aiming to produce a vehicle that featured its advanced battery technology by 2024. Apple has thus so far remained quiet about the possibility.
