Sony PlayStation boss Jim Ryan explained the need of releasing a disc-free console saying, “People are consuming more and more digital content as opposed to physical media, and Sony is releasing a new PlayStation console for those who align more with this vision for the future. We’re just acknowledging here that as time passes our community is becoming more digitally orientated.”
The senior executive also pointed out that, in the first quarter of 2020, about 66 percent of PlayStation games sold were digital. This rise in the digital game sales was undoubtedly driven by the fact that people are staying home during the COVID-19 lockdown, and the percentage of digital game sales is growing.
Sony has yet not revealed the price or the release date of the newly launched products. These details are expected to be revealed by the year-end.
