Google has launched Keen likely a Pinterest rival. Keen is available on the web and Android. The new platform Keen draws on the search giant’s machine learning expertise to curate topics. Co-founder CJ Adams says, “Keen aims to be an alternative to mindlessly browsing online feeds.”
Pinterest has already captured the hobby-focused market with its pinboard-style visual design which are the main distinctive characteristics that Keen is trying to imitate.
As per the company Keen will over power Pinterest with Google’s expertise in machine learning, which will show relevant content related to your interests. The users will use Keen to build a collection of resources on a topic and share it with people.
Co-founder CJ Adams said, “You want to curate content from the web and people you trust to help make that happen. You make a keen, which can be about any topic, whether it’s baking delicious bread at home, getting into birding or researching typography. Keen lets you curate the content you love, share your collection with others and find new content based on what you have saved.”
He further added, “Even if you’re not an expert on a topic, you can start curating a keen and save a few interesting gems or links that you find helpful. These bits of content act like seeds and help keen discover more and more related content over time.”
Adams also said, “Keen is not planned as a place to spend endless hours browsing but rather it will be a place where people can share and grow their interests and find things that will help in making this precious life. For every keen created, Google will use the Google Search index and machine learning to suggest related content. The more you save to a keen and organize it, the better the recommendations become further on.”
However, Pinterest has also been investing big time in AI and machine learning’s ability to find patterns in data outshining humans in many areas like niche hobbies and interests. Collective instincts of a big user base will exceed those of the machines for the present time.
Keen, the Pinterest type social network platform, will allow Google to whet its users’ interests and gather their information. The data collected by Keen will be put together with other Google information about users collected from other sources. However, as per Google a keen can be made private or public. This means that the users can control what information is shared and who can contribute more to it. Simultaneously, users will be able to follow keens created by others.
