Facebook and Instagram to remind people to wear face masks
Facebook has announced that it will add a message at the top of its Instagram and Facebook news feeds to remind users to wear a face mask and encourage people with this alert to cover their mouth and nose when they step out of their houses. Soon the users of both the apps will see a message appearing at the top of the feed.
This move comes at a time when the Coronavirus cases show an alarming surge in the US, India, and other parts of the world.
The tech giant in a tweet said “With the rise in COVID-19 cases in the US, we are putting an alert at the top of @facebookapp and @instagram to remind everyone to wear face coverings and find more prevention tips from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in our COVID-19 Information Center. #WearAMask”
The alert would appear on Facebook and Instagram app as a reminder and it would read, “Wear a Cloth Face Covering to Help Prevent the Spread of COVID-19 When in public, cover your mouth and nose with a cloth face covering. Learn more from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).”
The tech giant will start showing the message first in the US on both Instagram and Facebook applications and then the message is expected to go live in other markets in the future.
The current Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends that people should wear masks in public spaces to protect others and themselves from any possible infection and spread of the disease. As per CDC, using masks reduces the transmission of respiratory droplets that may spread the virus and cause trouble.
