Netflix Starts Testing Android Games for Users in Poland

Netflix, the streaming giant, announced the testing of mobile games in Android app for their members in Poland. The company will offer mobile games on the existing subscription without additional charges, but users must install the games on their devices via Play Stores.

Initially, subscribers will enjoy Stranger Things: 1984 and Stranger Things 3, which were already available on the App Store and Google Play. Now on, it will be released on other platforms, including desktop and consoles. Netflix started working with the Allen, Texas-based game studio BonusXP, whose first game for Netflix, “Stranger Things: The Game,” which is now renamed “Stranger Things: 1984,” to differentiate it. The follow-up title of Stranger Things 3 is a playable version of the third season of the Netflix series.

To play the games for the first time, members must confirm their Netflix credentials, while later, they can return any time by clicking “Play” on the game’s page within the Netflix app installed on their devices. So, users have to take the subscription to enjoy the games while the existing ones just need to download from their account library. The games are only available in Poland at the moment, so it’ll be a while before Netflix expands this feature to other countries.

As per one of the representatives of Netflix, “It is still very, very early days, and we will be working hard to deliver the best possible experience in the months ahead with our no ads, no in-app purchases approach gaming.” Netflix aims to gain a better understanding of how mobile games resonate with Netflix members and determine the improvements Netflix needs to enhance users’ gaming experience.

Analyzing the potential of the entertainment industry, the company is planning to invest considerable amounts in gaming in the coming years. Though back in 2019 at the E3 gaming conference, Netflix hinted at gaming integrations across popular platforms like Roblox and Fortnite and about the tentative launch of “Stranger Things” games to the online market.

“We view gaming as another new content category for us, similar to our expansion into original films, animation, and unscripted TV,” Netflix wrote in a Tuesday letter to shareholders.
