Apple launches Apple Watch Series 6, iPad Air 4 with A14 Bionic SoC, iPad 8 at Time Flies event
Apple made several big announcements at the Time Flies event. A few of the announcements were Apple Watch Series 6, the new iPad 8, and iPad Air 4.
The most interesting launch was the Apple Watch Series 6. Apple Watch Series 6 is the latest smartwatch to join Apple’s non-iPhone portfolio. The new Apple Watch is more than just a smartwatch, especially during the post-Covid-19 life. The Watch Series 6 comes with the blood oxygen monitor, which will be useful in tracking the level of oxygen in human blood, aiding in collecting information about heart conditions. Measuring the blood oxygen level has become common during the coronavirus pandemic and Apple has come up with a solution that goes right on the wrist of the user.
The Watch Series 6 is getting a new design too. The Apple Watch Series 6 uses the Always-on Retina Display that comes in two sizes: 40mm and 44mm. It is water and dust resistant, as well as, has an altimeter for elevation detection.
The Apple Watch Series 6 uses the U1 Ultrawideband chip too, which the company is going to integrate on its entire portfolio of devices. The chip will allow devices to find each other, provided they are in the vicinity.
In the US, the Apple Watch Series 6 starts at USD 399 for the GPS model. It is up for pre-orders in the US today while the sales begin Friday.
The other most interesting launches were the new iPads. The iPad Air 4 has been launched by the company with a design that features a 10.9-inch edge-to-edge retina display, Touch ID, A14 Bionic processor, and USB-C connectivity. The chipset will offer 40 percent faster CPU, 30 percent faster graphics, and 70 percent faster machine learning with next-generation Neural Engine.5. This is the first time in many years that Apple has debuted a new A-series chipset on the iPad before iPhone.
The iPad Air 4 features a more powerful processor than the iPad Pro. The new iPad Air, in 64GB and 256GB configurations, will be available in five colors including silver, space gray, rose gold, green, and sky blue at a price of USD 599.
Apart from the iPad Air 4, Apple also launched the 8th generation iPad at the event. The iPad 8 does not get the powerful A14 SoC. However, the iPad 8 comes with slimmer bezels than before and as a result a bigger 10.2-inch display. As it’s an entry-level iPad model, there aren’t too many features for users here.
The new iPad 8 is an upgrade on the 7th generation iPad which features an A10 Fusion chip. With the addition of the A12 Bionic chip, the iPad 8 can now give up to 10 hours of battery life and keep going through the day. The Apple iPad 8 is powered by iPadOS 14 and also gets support for Apple pencil. iPad 8th Gen and is available at a starting price of USD 329.
However, there was no iPhone announcement and the iPhone 12 series may not be unveiled until October.
