Amazon has announced that it is adding its next high-profile celebrity voice option for Alexa digital assistant. This time it is exclusive for the Indian market. The Alexa users will be able to augment the voice assistant special feature to sound like Bollywood star Amitabh Bachchan, a household name in the country of more than 1.3 billion people.

The baritone has ruled the Indian film industry for over five decades will soon deliver a unique voice experience to the many Indian customers who use Alexa.

Alexa users can avail the voice assistant’s special feature to sound like the Bollywood star starting next year. Amitabh Bachchan is actually going to become Alexa’s first Indian Celebrity voice.

Amazon’s blog says, “Customers in India will be able to access Bachchan’s iconic voice on Alexa by purchasing the Amitabh Bachchan voice experience.”

India has the privilege to be called the key growth market for Amazon outside the US. India’s move to increasing smartphone users and the growing purchase power of its people make it crucial for Amazon worldwide expansion over the next decade, especially around voice interfaces for shopping and web navigation.

Amitabh Bachchan’s combination with Amazon is likely to deliver a perfect pitch and delight the Indian customers.
The company did not reveal how much Amazon intends to charge for Bachchan’s Alexa voice or whether it intends to ever make it available outside India. Last year, the company had teamed with actor Samuel L. Jackson for a similar Alexa integration, which costs 99 cents. The same techniques will be used in the partnership with Bachchan, who recorded a series of phrases for an Alexa database that Amazon will expand using artificial intelligence. That means an almost perfect mimic of his voice can be used for words and phrases Bachchan never recorded in the studio. Google had used an almost similar approach when it enlisted musician John Legend’s voice for its limited-time Google Assistant add-on.

However, the Bachchan option won’t entirely replace Alexa but instead will be available for certain requests. The blog post said, “Bachchan option will include jokes, weather, motivational quotes, and advice. When launched next year, customers in India can easily invoke the Amitabh Bachchan voice experience by just asking Alexa and instantly getting back their favorite superstar’s voice responding to popular requests.”

Now it is to be seen how Indian customers will respond when they use Alexa and hear the legendary actor’s voice.
