Twilight Releases New App for MacOS

You will now be able to schedule tweets from Twitter’s web app

Twitter has now released a new app for MacOS. The Twitter app is now available in the Mac App Store, but it is only for users running the new version of macOS, Catalina. The app is built with a Catalina framework called Catalyst that allows developers to port their iPad apps over to the Mac with less work than before.

Twitter had announced that it would support Catalyst at this year’s WWDC in June. Twitter is by far the most notable Catalyst app so far. The app isn’t the exactly the same as the Twitter app for iPad. It looks weird Mac-style toolbar visually clashes with Twitter’s own below it.

Twitter explains that Mac Catalyst makes it easier for the company to support Mac and iOS both: “The new Twitter for Mac app will use our existing iOS codebase, rather than being built from a separate codebase, following the same successful strategy we’ve used with Web to expand our supported clients. By supporting key Mac-specific behaviors on top of our iOS code, we will be able to maintain feature parity across our iOS and Mac apps with relatively low long term maintenance costs.”
