Instagram to start hiding likes in the US

Recently, Instagram has been testing the feature where likes count is hidden, however, people were able to see who liked the posts. Earlier, Instagram tested the feature in 6 countries: Canada, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Brazil, Australia, and New Zealand. At a recent WIRED25 conference, Instagram CEO Adam Mosseri announced that the company will start to test this feature for a few US users soon.

The number of likes will be hidden from public posts in the Feed, on the web, and in profiles. However, you would still be able to see how many likes your post gets. It will, therefore, get harder for people to compare the number of likes between posts. Facebook is also running tests for a similar feature in Australia.

These changes could also have a serious impact on small influencers who rely on large numbers of likes to attract brand deals. While likes may become hidden, Instagram still has another metric: the follower count, through which influencers could attract deals.
