A Wrap-up of YouTube Rewind 2019
YouTube released its annual YouTube Rewind video, where the company also apologized for last year’s poor rewind. Last year’s YouTube “Rewind” became the most-disliked video of all time on the platform, with more than 16 million dislikes. So, this year, the company decided to change things up.
Kevin Allocca, the Head of Culture and Trends for YouTube, told Insider, “The real central issue is that a lot of people felt like it just didn’t represent their authentic experience of YouTube during the year. We definitely heard that feedback loud and clear and decided the video should really focus on the year on YouTube as accurately as possible.”
The 2019 rewind is a montage of clips from top videos, channels, and moments of the year that’s just really based on the data, including views, subscriptions, likes, social mentions, and more. Allocca said the 2019 “Rewind” isn’t reverting back to the 2011 style so much as it’s a response to what YouTube thinks people didn’t like about the 2018 version.
This year’s Rewind video is made up entirely of YouTube clips, which were chosen based on data about the most-watched creators, most-watched videos, and most-searched trends.
The most viewed creators globally included:
- Felipe Neto
- David Dobrik
Most viewed video games globally included:
